Ferdinand Porsche put wheel motors on a battery electric car in 1897. They built about 300 of them and there were 4WD & FWD versions. He also made a hybrid version.

This is a much better use of electric motor technology than following a traditional internal combustion set-up. A single motor attached to energy-robbing transmission and drivetrains can’t get the power and efficiency of hub motors with a central brain controlling them for power and traction. It could, conceivably, eliminate (or significantly reduce) the need for traditional braking systems. Better to recapture all that braking energy than waste it as heat.

i like your ride a lot better than the goverment motors(GM)chevy volt.who wants to pay 40 grand for something that makes a pinto look like a caddy?your ride is so cool.the world needs more people like you and less people that throw sticks at people like you.have you seen the lincvolt neil young is working on?its on youtube check it out.many thanks to you and people like you for trying to make the world a better cleaner place.

i like the idea, but a car can have 2 or 4 in-wheel motors. what happens if one of the sets out on the highway. It would have a serious effect on the car traveling over 100 km/h

the oil companies have done everything they could for the past 80 years to retard science to protect their business.im using a phoenix hub motor to power a bike with great results.right now im running @36 volts with 20 amp hr batterys and can go 22 mph with no peddling and have a range of 25 miles before i need a recharge.time for everyone to wake up to the fact the oil companies are mans worst enemy and have been for at least 80 years.look how they smeared a great man like tesla

retarded is spelt retarded do think there are possible other reasons why there hasn’t been a switch to electricmaybe because people don’t wanna go on a trip and have to charge every 25 milesi bet independent companies have developed electric cars but no one is buying them

nice! but i don’t get hog the motor works.can someone please tell me?

in a normal electric motor the motor powers a shaftif u hold the shaft still than the motor body will spin instead of the shaft put i tyre around the motor and u got a powered wheelnot exactly like thisthere are difference in how power gets to the motor (if it’s dc than the brushes are reversed)and normal motors spin very fastso these motors have to be designed to have alot of torque at low rpm
