I just bought this GPS today and before opening my box I was hoping to find some reviews. I couldn’t find any. I am pretty sure the product is good. After all it’s a Sony.

Thank you, thank you for the opportunity to (vent) review the frustrations of this product. First of all, check all my reviews…they are all positive for good reasons: I have loved the products. Not so this little gem. It is counter intuitive and frustrating to operate, even when at home and not in a moving vehicle. This is so surprising for a Sony product of which I have many, from digital cameras to televisions. From its (5? volt) car plug in adaptor (you know any 5 volt cars?!) to its initial starting address entry you will be ready to throw it out the nearest window. On a more positive note I only spent 80 bucks for it and it does have ‘text to speech’ which is remarkable for under 100 dollars. I will continue to struggle with it and am eager to write a happy review, but until then this reccommendation will remain ‘avoid at all costs’

This is Sony’s frugal attempt to enter GPS market.
It’s nice unit if it can find place that you want to go to..
This unit has doesn’t come with latest firmware updates, so you need to update it using your computer, not a big deal but would prefer not to do for a brand new unit.
As soon as I got unit I typed in 10 most common places I visit and it could not find 5 of them and every address has existed for at least 3 years now. I tried typing out of state addresses too and it could not find them unless addresses were at least 5-8 years old.
I would like to mention that my garmin and Magellan that are at least 6 month old unit could locate all the addresses that this unit couldn’t locate.
No latest maps available so you are stuck with outdated maps on a brand new unit.
Before purchasing this unit I would ask you to look how freely refurbished units are available for this model…it should give you pretty good idea as how many people return this unit
Pay few extra bucks and buy some other brand.

Well bought it on sale for $79. Well i don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars on GPS device, since i do not need Bluetooth, MP3, TTS etc..
All i need for it to get me where im going.
First of all im not new to GPS devices. I used Tom Tom and and before dying on me it was working really nice but one day for no reason it just DIED. i also used Magellan 1212, So this GPS is my 3rd one.
Pros:
— Gets good signal right away and thats why i gave 2 stars instead of one.
Cons:
—Not fully touch screen (but you already know that before buying it)
—ALWAYS looking for Toll Roads even if any other street will get you there faster
— Does NOT ask you if you want to avoid toll roads (which I DO),
and honestly i didn’t even find the option where you can avoid toll roads, Correct me if im wrong on this one.
—If you want to try another route and I’m not talking about recalculating, like if you don’t want to take I-10 because you know it’s jammed up and go through 59 or 45, my Tom Tom would give me bunch of options but Sony just gave me TWO. I tried few other destinations and all it gave me just two options.
Now, I don’t know if it just my device acting up but im just telling you the way it is.
In my Personal opinion, just proves one thing: if you really good in other Electronics, doesn’t mean you have to stick your head in every department.
