Most batteries these days, including ones for electric cars, use lithium-ion batteries, not mercury-cadmium as I imagine you are suggesting. As well, getting rid of fossil-fuel…err…fueled cars would at least transfer the main sources of GHGs and pollution to power plants rather than fleets of petroleum-burning cars.
